Monday Morning Dispatch - Volume #213

Start your week off right:

  1. Every year, Saveur Magazine celebrates the best in food blogging and each year I add a few blogs to my ever growing list of food blogs. The only problem is that you get very hungry scrolling through the winners.

  2. I was familiar with J.M.W Turner and his painting of the train in the fog but I wasnt aware of his influence on painting. I definitely will study his work and see if there is any lessons I can apply to my photography.

  3. I am fascinated by sketchbooks. They are a glimpse into the artist’s mind. The Sugarlift gallery is running their first Sketchbook show. I would love to get to NYC for that.

  4. Scott Reinhard turns historic maps into 3-D topographical maps and the results are beautiful. The map of Mount. Saint Helens is particularly stunning.

  5. I am not a skateboarder and I have seen Grant Brittain’s famous cover image before. He talks about that famous image and his journey into photography.

  6. “You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.” — John C. Maxwell

  7. Here is a great reminder from Jens Krauer that you dont have to let the rat race of social media dictate your creative life. I will also add this conversation between Cal Newport and Jocelyn K. Glei to my growing wariness with social media.

  8. I am not really sure how to describe Thomas Cian’s paintings but the closest I can think of is that they are like a melting charcoal painting. I love the portrait of the woman farther down on the page.

  9. I am a big believer in making a book or a zine of your work. The process allows you to think about your own work in a very different way. If you need any advice starting a project, Nick Mayo has some great videos to help you out.
