Letters & Pixels #40

I've often wondered
if the simple action
of pocketing a token
in a purse
in a bag
on a scrap of paper
that we never forget
that we never remember
the details of a life
that passes
to nothing
without memory.

If it's never forgetting,
should we?
Surely the worth
of a life only brought
back through tokens
isn't much at all.

And if it's never remembering,
do we have to?
I want to live
with every ghost
who authored the scars
written in tight skin
who created the
absurdism of my
patchwork heart.
