Monday Morning Dispatch - Volume #20

  1. Ever wonder why the dollar sign is $? Wonder no more
  2. "Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things. And the reason they were able to do that was that they’ve had more experiences or they have thought more about their experiences than other people. Unfortunately, that’s too rare a commodity. A lot of people in our industry haven’t had very diverse experiences. So they don’t have enough dots to connect, and they end up with very linear solutions without a broad perspective on the problem. The broader one’s understanding of the human experience, the better design we will have." Steve Jobs
  3. Gorgeous pre-fab backyard rooms from Australia. I would love to sit in one on a warm summer day.

  4. 1000 year-old mummy discovered in a sitting Buddha statue smuggled out of a temple in China.

  5. Incredible series of miners collecting sulfur off an active volcano in Indonesia. I can't imagine how hard of a life it must be.

  6. Keeping the last of typewriters functionally...... The Last of the Typewriter Man

  7. Fear is absolute. We all deal with it in varying degrees and it doesn't go away. I learned this lesson playing rugby. The nerves and butterflies kicked in before every single game of my career.  As soon as the ball was in the air, I had no time to be afraid. All I could do was compete. This applies to working out and creating art.
