Be brave. Savor the new and the unfamiliar.....

Be brave. Savor the new and the unfamiliar. And realize that it’s a little bit like food. The first time I tasted Laphroaig single malt Scotch whiskey, I said: “Oh, that tastes like an old rope dipped in turpentine … give me some more!” New experiences are sometimes strange and sometimes even off-putting. But to realize that in fact that’s a good thing. It leads to new experiences. New ways of being in the world. I say: Relax. Don’t worry about making sense in any way. Because in many cases the old ways of listening just don’t apply. If you can let go and sink into the music, eventually your ears will tell you how to listen. The music will tell you how to hear it.
