My goal each weekend is to share at least one thing I have learned/discovered working for myself. I have no idea how much value you will get from this but I do promise it will be honest. This will be the good, the bad, and the ugly of my journey.
Social network notifications are addicting. Nothing ground breaking here. Everyone accepts this including myself. But I did nothing to protect myself from their power. (warning humblebrag coming..I feel a little dirty)....Tumblr chose one of my Spider Mum pictures for their tumblr:radar and the homepage background for a few hours. Awesome honor. I picked up 2500+ tumblr likes and reblogs in 2 hours. My followers increased by 400%. But the steady streams of little "t" notifications ruined a day and half of productivity. My focus shifted from making great art to I wonder how many more people like something I created. I had to put in the effort to protect my time and attention. It meant unsubscribing to all those daily deal emails or turning off facebook notifications. Be ruthless with your time. The Brilliant Paul Jarvis (http://pjrvs.com/art/) describe this better then I could. But It took this week before I finally started fighting for my time back.
Favorite Quote of the week:
"We enjoy and even thrill to the godlike possibilities we see in ourselves in peak moments. And yet we simultaneously shiver with weakness, awe and fear before these very same possibilities."
- Abraham Maslow
